THT production

THT production – for non-automatable printed circuit boards

Through hole technology – THT for short – is a special type of printed circuit board assembly. Once the through-hole mounting is used, the individual components have wire connections that are inserted through the existing contact holes of the circuit board. This is followed by a special wave soldering, selective soldering or manual soldering by hand. In this method, the manual work effort is usually much higher than in the fully automated SMT production. Despite the high cost, THT production has been indispensable in many industries until now, as some printed circuit boards can not be fully or completely automated.

Where is the THT production used?

Even though THT production in information electronics is being used less and less frequently today, these wired components are used especially for simpler products. In addition, the components themselves must have a high current carrying capacity, which makes through-hole mounting indispensable in many areas. Here, the wiring is also required due to the connection to different layers of the circuit board. For this reason, all components that have to withstand high mechanical stress can only be mounted using the THT method.

The advantages of THT production

• Manual soldering by highly qualified skilled workers

• Withstands high mechanical loads

• Printed circuit boards have a high current carrying capacity

• Proven method for non-automated PCBs

We would be pleased to advise you on the various possibilities of THT production and work out individual solutions for your product. Thanks to our state-of-the-art wave and selective soldering systems as well as highly trained skilled workers, we can maintain our high quality standards with this method.
